When people think of Pomeranians, they often picture a small, fluffy dog that looks like a living teddy bear. But behind that adorable face is a breed full of confidence, intelligence, loyalty, and attitude.
At The Dogfather, we have met many Pomeranians and one thing is certain: Pomeranians may be small in size, but they have the personality of a lion.
Origin of the Pomeranian
The Pomeranian traces its roots to the historical region of Pomerania, located between modern-day Germany and Poland. Interestingly, their ancestors were much larger sled-pulling Spitz dogs.
Over time, selective breeding reduced their size while retaining their:
✔ Intelligence
✔ Alertness
✔ Confidence
Today, they are among the world’s most popular companion dogs. A Pom never realizes it is small. They often believe they are the biggest and bravest dog in the room. Pomeranians form strong bonds with their family and often choose one favorite human. They learn quickly and enjoy mental stimulation. Training is usually successful when done positively.
